Purpose
- Evaluate the achilles tendon as the cause of the patients pain
Description
- The patient lies on the examination table prone
- Palpate the achilles tendon distal to proximal, feeling for localized thickening
- When the area of greatest pain/swelling is identified
- Ask the patient to dorsiflex and plantarflex the ankle
- Positive Test
- Localized area of swelling/ pain moves with plantarflexion/dorsiflexion
