Crossed Straight Leg Raise Test

Purpose

  • Evaluate patients with lower back pain with radicular features
  • This is the straight leg raise test performed on the non-radicular limb

Description

  • The patient is supine
  • The examiner passively flexes the contralateral hip, keeping the knee in full extension
  • Positive test
    • Pain reproduced radiating down the ipsilateral limb

  • Ropper et al[1]
    • Sensitivity: 28%
    • Specificity: 90%
