Purpose

  • Evaluate for an anterior glenohumeral joint dislocation[1]

Description

  • Ask the patient place the hand of the affected arm on the opposite shoulder
  • Then attempt to touch the chest with the elbow
  • Positive Test
    • Unable to touch the chest with the elbow while maintaining the hand on the opposite shoulder
