Purpose
- Apply compression to Median Nerve to evaluate as etiology patients symptoms
Description
- Patient is seated or standing
- Apply sufficient pressure over the carpal tunnel to cause skin blanching (≥30 sec)
- Positive test:
- Recreation of pain or paresthesias
Modified Durkan's
- Involves the use of equipment
- Firm plastic board (7 × 11 cm) with a central round-edged rectangular piece (3 × 6 cm)
- Sized to cover the volar wrist and apply pressure over the median nerve beneath the flexor retinaculum
- Incorporated into a blood pressure cuff, linked to a mercurial sphygmomanometer
- Inflate the blood pressure cuff to 150 mm Hg for 30 seconds
- Positive test
- Reproduction of symptoms
