- FPL synovial sheath
- Thumb flexor tendon sheath
- Radial synovial sheath (less common)
General
- Located on the palmer surface of the hand
- Surrounds/ communicates with flexor pollicis longus tendon sheath as it passes deep to the flexor retinaculum
- Located at the metacarpophalangeal joint extending up to 5 cm proximal to the transverse carpal ligament
- May communicate with the Ulnar Bursa through the potential space of Parona[3]
- Distally, it is continuous with the digital synovial sheath of the thumb
Function
- Enables smooth gliding of the FPL tendon
Clinical Significance
- Infectious Flexor Tenosynovitis
