Gross Anatomy
- Origin: inferior border of anterior inferior iliac spine, anteromedial hip joint capsule
- Insertion: 1.5 cm distal to the lesser trochanter of the femur
Innervation
Vascular Supply
- Profunda femoral artery
- Lateral femoral circumflex artery
Function
- Function is not well understood, although some utility is hypothesized
- Stabilization of the femoral head within a dysplastic acetabulum[2]
- May contribute to the stability of the anterior hip joint[3]
- May contribute to initiation of flexion during walking
- Prevent pinching of the anteriomedial joint capsule
