Description
- The iliopsoas bursa lies between the musculotendinous junction of Iliopsoas and the pelvic brim
- It may extend proximally into the iliac fossa and distally to the Lesser Trochanter
- It is the largest synovial bursa in humans (on average, 5 to 7cm long and 2 to 4cm wide) and is present in both hips in 98% of adults
- Extending from the lesser trochanter up to the iliac fossa
- Communication between the iliopsoas bursa and hip joint occurs in 14% of adults[4]
- Located at a defect between the pubofemoral and iliofemoral capsular ligaments of the hip[5]
- Fluid is not routinely present in the iliopsoas bursa
