Iliopsoas Test

Iliopsoas Test
The iliopsoas snapping can be reproduced by moving the hip from flexion, abduction, external rotation to extension, adduction, internal rotation[1]
  • Iliopsoas Test

Purpose

  • Evaluate the Iliopsoas tendon as a cause of snapping hip syndrome

Description

  • The patient is supine or lateral decubitus
  • Affected side is up
  • Move the affected hip into FABER (flexion, abduction, external rotation)
  • Passively move the hip into extension, adduction, internal rotation
  • Positive test
    • Palpable or audible snap
