Name

  • Ischiogluteal Bursa

Description

  • Synovial bursa composed of a fatty connective tissue capsule filled with synovial fluid
  • Located between gluteus maximus, ischial tuberosity

Anatomy

Biomechanics

  • Standing: tuberosity is covered by gluteus maximus
  • Sitting: muscle slides up, only fibrous tissue and ischiogluteal bursa between bone and skin[3]

Imaging

  • Often difficulty to see on ultrasound or MRI unless it is inflamed
