- Origin: Anterior tubercles of transverse processes of C3-C6
- Insertion: Basilar part of occipital bone

- Bilateral contraction: head flexion
- Unilateral contraction: ipsilateral head rotation
Innervation
- Cervical Plexus: Anterior rami of spinal nerves C1-C3
Vascular Supply
- Ascending cervical artery
- Inferior thyroid artery
