Meniscofemoral Ligaments

Name
- Meniscofemoral Ligaments (MFL)
General
- Arises from the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus
- Inserts on the lateral aspect of the medial head of femoral condyle
- Splints into two bands at the posterior cruciate ligament
Variant Anatomy
- About 2/3 of people possess both bands, while 1/3 posses only one band[3]
- Approximately 20-30% of people have both anterior and posterior MFL
- Approximately 80% have one MFL, posterior is more common than anterior
Function
- Contributes to stabilization of the posterolateral part of the lateral meniscus
