Purpose


Description

  • The patient is seated or standing
  • The shoulder is abducted to 90°
  • Examiner grasps the distal forearm with one hand and stabilizes the elbow with the other
  • The elbow is then flexed and a valgus stress force is applied while externally rotating the shoulder
  • At the end of range of motion, the examiner extends the elbow to 30°
  • Positive test is:
    • Pain at the medial elbow
    • Pain is greatest between 120° - 70° elbow flexion
    • Gapping/instability with UCL tear
