Ulnar Collateral Ligament
Description
-
Anatomy of the UCL[1]
-
(A) Anterior and (B) medial views of an elbow, demonstrating the 3 bundles of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) and the relationship between the anterior bundle of the UCL and the musculotendinous insertions of the flexor pronator mass, with the footprints represented by different colors. ABUCL, anterior bundle of the UCL; FCU, ulnar carpi ulnaris; FDS, flexor digitorum superficialis; OBUCL, oblique bundle of the UCL; PBUCL, posterior bundle of the UCL.[2]

Alternative Names
- Elbow Medial Collateral Ligament
Anatomy
- Anterior Oblique Ligament (AOL)
- Sometimes referred to as anterior bundle
- Origin: Medial Epicondyle
- Insertion: Sublime tubercle
- Can be subdivided into anterior band and posterior band
- Posterior Oblique Ligament (Posterior Bundle)
- Transverse Ligament (Ligament of Cooper)
Actions
- Anterior Oblique Ligament
- Anterior band: isometric strain during range of motion
- Posterior band: increasing strain with increased elbow flexion
- Posterior Oblique Ligament
- Increase tension as flexion increases
