General
- Origin: anterior divisions of L5-S2 of the lumbosacral plexus
Anatomic Course
- Exits the pelvic cavity through the greater sciatic foramen
- Winds around the ischial spine to enter the perineum
- This occurs via the lesser sciatic foramen where it comes to lie on the medial side of obturator internus

Pathology
- Deep Gluteal Pain Syndrome
- Pelvic Nerve Entrapment Syndrome
- Impaired external hip rotation
Surgical
- May be affected during posterior hip or pelvic surgeries
- Important landmark in sacral plexus anatomy and regional anesthesia
