Purpose
- Evaluate the Piriformis as a cause of hip or buttocks pain
- Note: Seated Piriformis Stretch Test is a separate exam technique
Description
- The patient is laying in the lateral decubitus position with affected hip superior
- Flex affected hip to 60°
- Apply downward force to lateral knee
- Positive test
- Buttock pain radiating down back of leg
- Due to tight piriformis muscle with sciatic distribution impingement
