Purpose

  • To evaluate for appendicitis as a cause of the patients abdominal pain
  • A positive test indicates irritation of iliopsoas

Description

  • Method One
    • The patient is supine
    • The patient is asked to lift their right leg straight up
    • The examiner places pressure on the thigh
  • Method Two
    • The the patient lie on their left side
    • The examiner passively extends the right hip
  • Positive test
    • Abdominal pain
