General

• Extrinsic muscle of the shoulder, located deep to trapezius
• Part of the Rhomboid Muscle Group

Origin

• Ligamentum nuchae and C7 and T1 vertebra

Insertion

• Medial border of the Scapula near the base of the scapular spine

Actions

• Retracts and rotates the scapula
• Fixes scapula to the thoracic wall
• In conjunction with the Rhomboid Major

Vascular Supply

• Dorsal Scapular Artery

Innervation

• Dorsal Scapular Nerve
