Sacroiliac Ligaments

  • Strengthen and stabilize the sacroiliac joint
  • Includes the sacroiliac ligaments (anterior, interosseous, posterior), sacrotuberous and sacrospinous
  • Prevents forward tilting of the sacral promontory

Sacroiliac Ligament

Anterior Sacroiliac Ligament

  • Formed by thickening of anterior portion of the capsule of the SI joint
  • Fibers course in an anteroinferior vector to the joint

Interosseous Sacroiliac Ligament

  • Located between the tuberosities of the sacrum, ilium
  • Strongest part of the sacroiliac ligament complex

Posterior Sacroiliac Ligament

  • Lays on top of the interosseous component
  • Fibers run superiorly and laterally in an oblique orientation
  • Joined inferiorly by accessory ligaments (sacrotuberous, sacrospinous)
