Sacroiliac Ligaments
(Redirected from Sacrotuberous Ligament)
Introduction

- Strengthen and stabilize the sacroiliac joint
- Includes the sacroiliac ligaments (anterior, interosseous, posterior), sacrotuberous and sacrospinous
- Prevents forward tilting of the sacral promontory
Sacroiliac Ligament
Anterior Sacroiliac Ligament
- Formed by thickening of anterior portion of the capsule of the SI joint
- Fibers course in an anteroinferior vector to the joint
Interosseous Sacroiliac Ligament
- Located between the tuberosities of the sacrum, ilium
- Strongest part of the sacroiliac ligament complex
Posterior Sacroiliac Ligament
- Lays on top of the interosseous component
- Fibers run superiorly and laterally in an oblique orientation
- Joined inferiorly by accessory ligaments (sacrotuberous, sacrospinous)
Sacrotuberous Ligament
- Triangular ligament with a broad attachment
- Extends from posterior ilium, lateral sacrum and coccyx
- Inserts on to ischial tuberosity
- Helps form the Greater Sciatic Notch
Sacrospinous Ligament
- Located deep to sacrotuberous ligament
- Triangular in shape
- Extends from lateral sacrum, coccyx, to ischial spine
- Helps form the lesser sciatic notch
