Stutter Test

Demonstration of the stutter test[1]
  • Plica Stutter Test

Purpose

  • Evaluate the Plicae as a cause of knee pain

Description

  • The patient is seated with affected leg flexed to 90°[2]
  • Examiner places hand on the center of the patella
  • Patient then actively extends knee while observing patellar movement
  • Positive Test
    • Patella 'stutters' or jumps during course of movement
    • Typically occurs around 45-70°
    • Crepitus may also be appreciated
