Triceps Squeeze Test

Purpose
- To evaluate the integrity of the Triceps Tendon
- Performed similarly to Thompson Test for Achilles Tendon Rupture
Description
- The patient is prone on the examination table
- This test can also be performed with patient seated
- Arm is abducted to 90°, internally rotated and hanging off table
- Support antecubital fossa with one hand or prone on table
- Allow forearm to freely hang
- Squeeze distal triceps muscle with other hand
- Positive test
- No elbow extension if complete rupture
- May feel palpable defect
- Note, may get false negative if only partial rupture
