Annular Ligament

Description

The lateral collateral ligament complex. The lateral collateral ligament complex consists of the lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL), radial collateral ligament (RCL), and annular ligament. The LUCL runs from the lateral epicondyle and inserts on the supinator crest of the ulna and is the most important stabilizer against varus instability.[1]

Actions

  • Forms the articular surface of the head and neck of the radius
  • Flexibility allows the oval head of the radius to rotate freely during pronation and supination
  • Prevents distal displacement of the radius
  • Stabilizes the proximal radial head, radioulnar joint
