Purpose

  • Evaluate for radicular neck pain

Description

  • The patient is seated or standing.
  • The affected limb has to be actively or passively raised above the head
  • The palm is placed on the top of the head
  • Hold position for 5-10 seconds
  • Positive test
    • Symptoms improve (suggesting relief of traction forces on the nerve)
  • Negative test
    • Symptoms worsen (suggesting myofascial tension on the nerve)

  • Rubinstein et al[2]
    • Sensitivity: 17–78%
    • Specificity: 75–92%
