(Redirected from Calcaneal Nerve)

Description

Sensory distribution of the plantar foot including the medial calcaneal nerve, medial plantar nerve, saphenous nerve, sural nerve and lateral plantar nerve[1]
The drawing of the medial aspect of the ankle showing the course of the tibial nerve (TN) and its branches, the medial calcaneal nerve (MCN), and medial and lateral plantar nerves (MPN and LPN), passing through the tarsal tunnel. FR: flexor retinaculum.[2]

Name

  • Medial Calcaneal Nerve
  • Nerve of the inner heel
  • Medial calcaneal branch of the tibial nerve
  • Calcaneal branch of the tibial nerve
  • Internal calcaneal nerve
  • Medial heel nerve
  • Calcaneal sensory branch of the tibial nerve

General

  • Sensory branch of the tibial nerve in the foot
  • Supplies sensation to the medial aspect of the heel

Anatomic Course

  • Branch of the tibial nerve
  • Arises in the tarsal tunnel
  • Moves superficially to perforate the flexor retinaculum of the tarsal tunnel
  • Terminates by dividing into several branches within the skin of the medial heel

Sensory Innervation
