General
- Stabilizes the joint between the capitate and hamate
- Component of distal interosseous ligaments of the wrist[2]
- Helps maintain the distal carpal row
Gross Anatomy
- Has volar, dorsal and interosseous components[3]
- Volar/dorsal portion covers distal half of joint
- Interosseous portion is relatively large with distal extension into 3rd/4th metacarpal bases
MRI Features
- Best viewed on axial and coronal planes with normal orientation or radial deviation
- More easily visualized with MR arthrography[4]
