Dorsal Radiocarpal Ligament
(Redirected from Dorsal radiocarpal ligament)
Description

Name
- Dorsal radiocarpal ligament
- Dorsal radiolunotriquetral
- Dorsal radiotriquetral ligament
- Posterior Radiocarpal Ligament
- Dorsal Radiocarpal Ligament of the Wrist
- Dorsal Radio-Carpal Ligament
- Ligamentum Radiocarpale Dorsale
General
- Large extrinsic intracapsular radiocarpal ligament
- One of the main dorsal stabilizers of the wrist
Gross Anatomy
- Forms part of the dorsal radiocarpal joint capsule
- Connects the dorsal radial rim with the lunate, triquetral
- Broad, trapezoid like shaped ligament
- Courses obliquely forms a toppled, horizontal oriented V shape[3]
Attachments
- Origin: dorsal radial edge of distal from listers tubercle to the sigmoid notch[4]
- Inserts into the dorsal surface of the lunate, triquetral bone
Ultrasound Features
- Can be visualized with the transducer placed at the dorsal aspect of a pronated, flexed wrist[5]
- Initiate at the level of listers tubercle in transverse plane, rotate towards triquetral
- Long axis of the ligament is displayed as an echogenic, fibrillary structure
- Seen deep to the4th extensor compartment
MRI Features
- Best seen on coronal or sagittal images
- Usually appears as a hypo intense, striated appearance
