General
- Lateral, cutaneous branch of the second intercostal nerve
- Supplies sensation to the axilla
Gross Anatomy
- Leaves the second intercostal space at the midaxillary line
- Pierces the serratus anterior muscle as it enters the subcutaneous tissue of the axilla
Variant Anatomy
- Can branch off the third intercostal nerve
- May join the medial cutaneous nerve of the arm to supply the skin of the medial arm
Clinical Significance
- Can be injured during axillary surgery
