- Superior aspect of spinous process of vertebrae L2-L5
Insertion

- Inferior aspect of spinous process of vertebrae C1-C6
- Interspinales Thoracis (commonly underdeveloped or absent)
- Inferior aspect of spinous process of vertebrae T1, T10, & T11 (varies)
- Interspinales Lumborum
- Inferior aspect of spinous process of vertebrae L1-L4
