• Part of the intrinsic muscles of the foot
• Located within the second plantar muscle layer

Origin

• Tendons of the flexor digitorum longus

Insertion

• Extensor Hood of the Foot of the lateral four digits

Actions

• Flexion of the metatarsophalangeal joints, extension of the interphalangeal joints of the foot

Vascular Supply

• Lateral Plantar Artery
• Plantar Metatarsal Arteries

Innervation

• Medial Plantar Nerve
• Lateral Plantar Nerve
