Performance of the pectoralis minor length test in the clinical setting. (A) Without pressure. (B) With pressure on the coracoid process in a diagonal direction under the control of a handheld dynamometer.[2]

Purpose

  • Used to assess shoulder protraction due to pec minor shortening

Description

  • The patient is supine
  • Measure: linear distance from the treatment table to the posterior aspect of the acromion is measured
  • Measurement: assess the resting length of the pectoralis minor muscle
    • Measure 3 times and take an average
  • Positive Test
    • Distance measured is 2.6 cm or greater
  • Normal: ≤ 2.6 cm
