Anatomy
- One of the many bursae of the knee
- Located proximal to the knee joint
- Between the prefemoral and suprapatellar fat pads, inferior to quad tendon
Actions
- Reduces friction between the two fat pads
- Reservoir for an effused knee
Variant Anatomy
- Communicates directly with knee joint in 85% of people
- In 15% of patients, there is an embryonic septum which separates it from the knee joint[4]
