General
- Belongs to the medial supporting structures of the ankle joint
- Considered one of the four superficial components of the deltoid ligament[2]
Gross Anatomy
- Located superficial to deep anterior tibiotalar ligament
- Located anterior to the tibiocalcaneal ligament
- Located posterior to the tibionavicular ligament
- Connects with the medial malleolus along with the spring ligament[3]
Action
- Tension increases with eversion and plantarflexion
Attachments
- Proximal: originates on the anterior tibial colliculus of the medial malleolus
- Insertion: blends with the more proximal fibers of the spring ligament
