Anatomic Description
- Enclosed by a strong fibrous capsule, lined internally by synovial membrane
- Proximal: Attached to the acetabulum, transverse acetabular ligament
- Distal: proximal femur, intertrochanteric line
- Approx 1 cm superomedial to interotrochanteric crest
- Thick anterosuperior, particularly in the upright position when the hip is extended
- Posteroinferiorly, relatively thin and loosely attached
- Zona orbicularis: deep circular fibers from the collar around the femoral neck
