Gross Anatomy
- Arises as a single/ multi banded structure lateral to the bifurcate ligament
- Can merge with bifurcate ligament or joint capsule
- Contributes to stability of the Calcaneocuboid Joint, and thus the Chopart Joint
Attachments
- Origin: distal dorsolateral surface of the anterior process of the calcaneus
- Insertion: proximal, lateral surface of the cuboid bone
Variant Anatomy
- Many common variants including
- Different directions
- Multiple bundles (accessory lateral band in up to 60% of people)[2]
- Merging with the calcaneocuboid bundle of the bifurcate ligament[3]
- Meniscus variant
