Description

  • Two belly muscle which assists in flexion of the great toe

Actions

  • Flexes the first metatarsophalangeal joint
  • Helps to maintain the medial longitudinal arch
  • Assists with the toe-off phase of gait providing increased push-off.

Vascular Supply

  • First metatarsal artery (plantar arch), a superficial branch of the medial plantar artery (off the Posterior Tibial Artery)
