Description

Origin
- Medial part of the under surface of the Cuboid
- Contiguous portion of the third Cuneiform
- Prolongation of the tendon of the Tibialis Posterior Muscle
Insertion
- The medial and lateral sides of the base of the Proximal Phalanx of the great toe
- Additional inserts onto the Sesamoid Bone of the Great Toe
Actions
- Flexes the first metatarsophalangeal joint
- Helps to maintain the medial longitudinal arch
- Assists with the toe-off phase of gait providing increased push-off.
Vascular Supply
- First metatarsal artery (plantar arch), a superficial branch of the medial plantar artery (off the Posterior Tibial Artery)
