- Group of six muscles which all externally or laterally rotate the hip joint
- All of the originate on the hip bone, insert on the upper aspect of the femur
Primary Muscles
- Piriformis
- Gemellus Superior
- Obturator Internus
- Gemellus Inferior
- Quadratus Femoris
- Obturator Externus
Innervation
- All of them are innervated by the sacral plexus
- Except the obturator externus, which his innervated by the lumbar plexus
Minor Contributors
- Gluteus Maximus: lower fibres
- Gluteus Medius, ppGluteus Minimus]]: muscle when the hip is flexed
- Psoas Major
- Psoas Minor
- Sartorius
