General

• Group of six muscles which all externally or laterally rotate the hip joint
• All of the originate on the hip bone, insert on the upper aspect of the femur

Primary Muscles

• Piriformis
• Gemellus Superior
• Obturator Internus
• Gemellus Inferior
• Quadratus Femoris
• Obturator Externus

Innervation

• All of them are innervated by the sacral plexus
• Except the obturator externus, which his innervated by the lumbar plexus

Minor Contributors

• Gluteus Maximus: lower fibres
• Gluteus Medius, ppGluteus Minimus]]: muscle when the hip is flexed
• Psoas Major
• Psoas Minor
• Sartorius
