General

• Fibrous expansion composed of superficial and deep layers
• The deep and superficial layers coalesce and insert on the patellar tendon, patella and quadriceps tendon
• They also extend posteriorly to blend with the medial margin of the knee joint capsule, inferior surface of medial tibial condyle

Superficial Fibers

• Fibers of vastus medialis muscle
• Tendon of vastus medialis
• Sartorius
• Medial Collateral Ligament

Deep Layers

• Medial Patellofemoral Ligament
• Meniscopatellar Ligament
• Patellotibial Ligament

Function

• Important stabilizer of the patella
• Resists lateral patellar displacement /dislocation
