- Band shape thickenings of deep fascia located posterior and inferiorly to the distal fibula
- Binds the tendons of fibularis longus, fibularis brevis as they cross the ankle
Gross Anatomy
- Can be divided into superior peroneal retinaculum, inferior peroneal retinaculum[3]
- Houses the tendons of fibularis longus, fibularis brevis as they transmit from the leg to the foot posterior to the lateral malleolus
Superior Peroneal Retinaculum
- Inserts at the lateral malleolus
- Extends to the lateral aspect of the calcaneus, deep fascia of the leg
Inferior Peroneal Retinaculum
- Continuation of Inferior Extensor Retinaculum of the Foot
- Extends posteriorly, laterally to attach to the lateral aspect of the calcaneus
