Antebrachial Fascia
Description

Name
- Antebrachial fascia
- Deep fascia of the forearm
General
- Thick connective tissue fascia which invests the muscles of the forearm
- Forms the lateral intermuscular septum which helps divide the forearm into posterior and anterior comparments with the radius, ulna and interosseous membrane
Gross Anatomy
- Envelopes the forearm from the elbow to the wrist
- Thicker dorsal/distal compared to proximal/ volarl[2]
- Forms several intermuscular septa which enclose different forearm muscles
- Proximally, connected to the olecranon and proximal ulna
- At the elbow, contains an opening for connection of the superficial and deep veins of the forearm
- Distally, continuous with the transverse carpal ligament, forming a sheath for the palmaris longus which inserts into the palmar aponeurosis
- Dorsally, continuous with the dorsal carpal ligament
Function
- Ensheathes the muscles of the forearm, separating the flexor and extensor groups
- Serves as an insertion site for the bicipital aponeurosis, triceps tendon
- Muscular origin: extensor carpi ulnaris, Extensor Digiti Minimi
Musculotendinous Attachments
- Brachial Fascia
- Lacertus Fibrosus
- Triceps Tendon
- Extensor Carpi Ulnaris
- Extensor Digiti Minimi
- Transverse Carpal Ligament
- Dorsal Carpal Ligament
Ligamentous Attachments
Boundaries
- Proximal: brachial fascia, lacertus fibrosus, olecranon
- Distal: transverse carpal ligament, dorsal carpal ligaments
- Anterior: palmaris longus
- Posterior: ulna
Vascular Supply
- Branches of
Innervation
- Branches of
Ultrasound Findings
- Thickened, hyperechoic lamina of connective tissue
Clinical Significance
- Acute Compartment Syndrome
- Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome
- Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
- Pronator Teres Syndrome
