General
- One of the many bursa of the knee
- Shares a name with the deep infrapatellar bursa
Gross Anatomy
- Located in the subcutaneous tissue between the distal patellar tendon and the overlying skin
- It is flat, about 2 cm x 2 cm by 2 mm in size and is not always present
- It is a synovial-lined structure and is usually collapsed
- Can communicate with the prepatellar bursa
Function
- Reduces friction between the patellar ligament and the overlying skin
Clinical Significance
- Infrapatellar Bursitis
- Traumatic Hemorrhage
