General

• One of the many bursa of the knee
• Shares a name with the deep infrapatellar bursa

Gross Anatomy

• Located in the subcutaneous tissue between the distal patellar tendon and the overlying skin
• It is flat, about 2 cm x 2 cm by 2 mm in size and is not always present
• It is a synovial-lined structure and is usually collapsed
• Can communicate with the prepatellar bursa

Function

• Reduces friction between the patellar ligament and the overlying skin
