Description


General
- There are medial, intermediate and lateral cuneiform bones
- They are wedge-shaped and add structure to the medial column of the foot
- Some of the tarsal bones of the foot
Articulations
- Navicular proximally
- Cuboid laterally
- 1st to 3rd Metatarsal distally
- Helps support the midfoot and lisfranc joint
Medial cuneiform
- Attachment site for Peroneus Longus on plantar surface
- Attachment site for Tibialis Anterior on medial surface
- The Lisfranc Ligament Extends from medial cuneiform to the base of the second metatarsal
Intermediate cuneiform
- Attachment site for multiple ligaments
- Attachment for Tibialis Posterior tendon
Lateral cuneiform
- Attachment site for multiple ligaments
- Attachment for Tibialis Posterior tendon
- Origin of Adductor Hallucis, Flexor Hallucis Brevis
Vascular Supply
- Dorsal Aterial Network including
- Lateral tarsal artery, a branch of the dorsalis pedis
- Middle pedicle branch of the dorsalis pedis
- Medial plantar and superficial medial plantar arteries
